L.e.d. lighting is the fastest growing form of lighting systems on the market. Most new homes are now fitted with L.e.d. lighting systems as standard however many older places in the inner west still have old style halogen or incandescent lighting and it could well pay to consider the benefits of having us change over your lights ti l.e.d.
What Is L.E.D. Lighting?
L.E.D. stands for light emitting diode. Light emitting diodes are semiconductor devices that have a unique property of emitting light of a particular wavelength when a small voltage is applies to the silicon chip inside the device. They are extremely energy efficient and, compared to most other forms of lighting, emit a relatively low level of heat – so more of the power goes to producing light and less to heat – this is a good thins as it reduces your power bills. Other benefits of L.e.d. lights include:
- very long life span – typically they are rated at over 50,000 hours. Even though the initial cost may be higher, this is recouped by the fact that they will not need replacing for a very long time
- environmentally friendly. These lights are better for the environment as they consume up to 90% less energy than equivalent halogen lighting
- cool operational running. Because they are semiconductor based, rather than filament, l.e.d. light bulbs run very much cooler. This means that potential hazards from running too hot are mitigated and handling the bulbs is generally ‘easier’ than incandescent bulbs
